Byland Abbey Mandala
Previousnext
This series of mixed media drawings combine the sculptural qualities of the ruined North Yorkshire Abbey, Byland, with the image of the rose window. The Rose Window with its circular design drawing the eye towards the centre was an aid to prayer - designed to raise medieval man's mind to God. In much the same way, the Buddhist Mandala with its circular design is an aid to stilling the mind in meditation.
